Participants will embark on a culturally responsive learning journey using the therapeutic powers of play to address the barriers that influence outcomes and impact the overall well-being of Black girls. This session will explore expressive and play therapy strategies to empower and support Black girls on their path to healing and becoming wholehearted adults. Drawing on the principles of Culturally Responsive Teaching, Black Feminist Theory, and Adlerian Play Therapy Theory, participants will explore recent research data, including Adultification Bias, Superwoman Syndrome concepts, and media’s effects on cultural identity. This session will equip participants with practical and hands-on play therapy applications to uplift and empower Black girls. Participants will increase their knowledge of issues facing Black girls today and the importance of a culturally affirming and responsive play therapy room. Throughout this session, Adlerian Play Therapy techniques will be tailored to empowering and supporting Black girls in the therapeutic setting.
